Basketball season is well underway!

From the offseason to just before the opening tip, it seems like everyone loves to talk a big game.

Newly-hired coaches, lottery picks and players “in the best shape of their life” all generate buzz, claiming their latest move is the key to a championship.

We only discover a team's true fate once the season begins, as teams start to find their identity, build chemistry, and establish the rotations that will lead to a sustainable and successful season.

In Genesee County, the ACT Work Ready Community team is doing the same. We’re finding our identity and putting students on a path towards in-demand careers with local employers on Main Street and our manufacturing hubs.

ACT Work Ready Communities is a workforce initiative connecting area students to their work-ready skills through the ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).

Our partners at Genesee Valley BOCES have launched an ACT WorkKeys NCRC testing site for Genesee County students and workforce candidates. The NCRC tests students, incumbent workers, and job seekers in applied math, graphic literacy, and workplace documents.

105 businesses located in and/or serving Genesee County have signed up as supporters of the initiative, exceeding the program’s goal.

The testing site contributes to our next mission in identifying individuals across the county who are prepared to challenge their skills and discover what opportunities await them as they progress in their professional journeys.

Stay tuned for the opportunities coming soon in Genesee County. Once participants enroll in the NCRC, they will be able to search and vet job requirements and skills sought by local businesses, enabling them to identify the right fit and meet the specific criteria for their desired careers.

The NCRC is another player in the rotation of our workforce development ecosystem, adding a versatile skillset that will combine work-ready skills with career opportunities.
