Coach's Corner: Trusting the Workforce Development Process
by Chris Suozzi
Each week, Coach McDermott, Josh Allen, James Cook, and leaders on the field and coaching staff consistently remind us at home to “trust the process.”
That’s what sets the Bills apart from the rest of the competition. As fans, we celebrate the results. As players and coaches, they prioritize the work that’s needed to win.
Focusing on the end result does not lead to better outcomes. It can cause you to overlook the important steps required to achieve success.
We all need to focus on the details. Through continuous training and learning, we achieve sustained and high-quality results.
Our workforce development partners show that sustained learning and education leads our students to their choice of opportunities and pathways. It sets our youth and recent graduates on a path toward a professional career and establishes a foundation for lifelong success.
GLOW With Your Hands is the standard for this approach.
Since 2019, over 7,500 students have come to GLOW With Your Hands and GLOW With Your Hands: Healthcare and experienced hands-on activities.
As these future leaders learn about the jobs available to them in our own backyard, they see a path that values and rewards their efforts and skills
Every year, I’m impressed by all the students who had smiles on their faces, along with energy and enthusiasm to get out of the classroom and interact with our local companies. But not only did the students smile, all our vendors and volunteers had huge smiles because they are all passionate about workforce development.
In addition to the experiences students took home from GLOW With Your Hands, I’m pleased to share that each student at this year’s event received the Genesee County Career Roadmap.
The Career Roadmap is a resource that provides information on career paths, apprenticeship-style programs, and opportunities for students and graduates to find career opportunities in Genesee County. It lays out the process a student, a recent graduate, or a career changer can take to success.
I urge you to not just trust this process, but to share it with your kids, your family, or a friend who needs a boost.
The roadmap features information and contacts for 26 manufacturing and skilled trades employers and career-readiness resources across Genesee County. Many of these companies were at GLOW With Your Hands!
The record capital investment we are experiencing in the GLOW region is the result of the workforce development process we have implemented.
As we continue to trust that process, we will experience more jobs, housing, and career opportunities for the next generation.
